Heh, I stretched some of those answers quite a bit...
Anyway, how is everybody doing? I just wanted to let you all know that things are going great here in Yellowstone National Park. So great, in fact, that I'm not at all eager to leave. In fact, I'm probably going to be a miserable wreck when I get back, but I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
| So, I'll be brief since I really should be getting to bed...But for those of you who don't know already, I'm not gonna be in LA this summer. I'm working at Yellowstone National Park until the middle of August. It should be lots of fun, I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm currently in Bozeman, MT and will be taking a bus up to the park early tomorrow morning. I'm not sure if I'll have cell phone reception, but I should have Internet access (which is hopefully not too limited). I'll be taking lots of photos, of course. They'll be posted on Facebook and also here.
Have a good summer, everybody! I know (hope) I will.
| Woo-hoo, I'm on break again! Not that it means much, I've got plenty of work to do during and right after the "break." So, I'll be unreachable via Internet Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Big whoop, right?
There are two things that are more important that I want to discuss. First, I need some help from one or more charitable and available individuals who have a moderate or better understanding of the Japanese language. Some of you may know that I've translated some video games from the series "Ganbare Goemon." Well, I'm currently working on translating a manga, and need some help. Go to goemoninenglish.blogspot.com for more details.
The second thing is the Decemberists concert I mentioned awhile back on Facebook and Myspace. It's on the evening of May 19 (that's a Tuesday), and they're playing at the Hollywood Palladium. I want to get a small group of people together to see them, and on account of the fact that my birthday is two days earlier, I'll pay for, oh, let's say...the first three people that are interested. You can buy me a drink if you want to watch me get tipsy/wasted. So, if anybody's interested, let me know ASAP, because they've stopped pre-sales already and I need to order the tickets soon! IF YOU SAY YOU'RE GOING, DON'T BACK OUT! MAKE SURE IT'S AT LEAST POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO COMMIT TO MAY 19!
So, that's all. This is probably my second least favorite part of the semester right here, it's almost summer (which had better be damn awesome), the end of the semester is so close yet so far, and professors are piling on tests, big projects, etc.
Bah, I'm really tired today...I don't care if the entire campus worships them, I hate my neighbors sometimes. Especially when they stay up til 5 am partying, with a radio blaring through a paper-thin wall. What a way to end what turned out to be one of the worst days of the semester.
| ...so I hope you've got time if you want to read everything. Though I'd understand completely if you decide some of it is irrelevant. Seriously, it's not a big deal.
First off, I just got back from the podiatrist's. Again. My ingrown toenail issue was STILL not resolved, so hopefully it's over and done with. This procedure was slightly different from the ones I had before, and I can't say I enjoyed it...I felt like throwing up afterwards but thankfully didn't actually do it.
Second-of-ly (Woo-hoo, AD!), I'm almost completely certain about what I'll be doing this summer. Or, rather, I'm almost completely certain about where I'll be. What I'll be doing specifically is still a bit of a mystery. But I have to say, I'm pretty excited.
Thirdly, I just want to say that school is definitely not fun right now. 6 classes, all very stressful most of the time, and the subject matter isn't exactly easy to understand, either. What have I gotten myself into? Let's hope it all works out in the end.
Finally, I've got another one of those survey things. This one's a bit more open-ended, so it could be kind of tough...
Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you (or I think you'll come up with really entertaining things). [I didn't follow the first part, and there's no way in hell I'm following the last part.]
1. I'm in a major that's way over my head.
2. Coming here for school was my first experience of a "real winter". What a shock that was, every one seems to be worse than the last.
3. Despite translating two full games in the series(with some assistance, of course, I can't stress that enough), Ganbare Goemon is probably not my favorite game series. I still think Resident Evil or Legend of Zelda gets that honor.
4. You probably think I'm a pathetic nerd right about now. If you don't, then you're probably somebody I'd like.
5. I've had this song stuck in my head since before Christmas.
6. Speaking of Youtube obsession, I'm unhealthily addicted to this video. I have no idea why.
7. I promised another translation project soon, but to be honest no progress has been made on it since last October or November.
8. I love my job about 90% of the time.
9. I feel too jaded, and too busy, to have many meaningful relationships with people.
10. I'm from Los Angeles. You know what that means? It means I'm used to cars as far as the eye can see, bad air, loud, egotistical people, prices so high the stores might as well be stealing from you, and heat that should belong only in the bowels of Hell itself. And yet I have no desire to live anywhere else.
11. I used to act but decided to give it up for good when my confidence was completely shattered in high school. It's a long story.
12. I've been a Nintendo loyalist ever since I was little. Sure, I've dabbled in some games exclusive to Sony, but they rarely matched the quality I've come to expect from Nintendo. And let's not get into Xbox, I hate just about everything Microsoft puts out there.
13. It irritates me when people butcher my last name. Like, adding or subtracting letters for no apparent reason.
14. Celebrities I've seen at screenings and interviews include: Nicole Kidman, Fionnula Flanagan, James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Howard Shore, Joe Mantegna, and David Hyde Pierce.
15. I've had the sudden urge to travel, but lack the funds and the time to do so. I want to visit as many states as possible, as well as several European countries and a handful of Asian ones.
16. I enjoy talking to people over the Internet more than in person, generally. There's more anonymity, and more room for error.
17. I'm genuinely worried about various aspects of my future.
18. I write fiction as a hobby, but I rarely like the results when I compare them to stuff other people have written.
19. I currently feel kind of nauseous, and really fatigued. But the day is still far from over...
20. I have, at best, only a vague idea of what I want to do after I graduate.
21. At this point, it seems like one of the best things that I've gotten out of coming to college is a love for "Arrested Development".
22. I hate working in group projects 99% of the time. It just seems like nothing productive gets done most of the time. And it's really irritating having to depend on flaky people.
23. Seeing good art (fan art especially) makes me wish I could draw, but I refuse to put in the effort to learn.
24. I fear most of my classes this semester.
25. ...Did I mention that the most interesting thing about me is that there is nothing interesting about me?
| Got this from a friend on Facebook. Take your best shot at these, some of them are easier than others and I did cheat quite a bit...More about that at the end.
First, put your mp3 player or whatever on random. Then post the first line from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song (and there may be a few like that for me, but whatever; there's lots of Beatles, of course). Third, have everyone guess what song and artist the lyrics come from. NO USING SEARCH ENGINES! it has to come from your own personal experience.
1.) "Consider yourself at home."
2.) "They're really rocking in Barstow. In Pittsburgh, PA."
3.) "You've been good to me, you made me glad when I was blue."
4.) "I was just a paper hanger, no one more obscurer. Got a phone call from the Reichstag, told me I was Fuhrer."
5.) "Just like Cain and Abel, you pulled a sneak attack."
6.) "Pig's in the mud when he tires."
7.) "Innocent and in a sense I am guilty of the crime that's now in hand."
8.) "My doll is as dainty as a sparrow. Her figure is something to applaud."
9.) "You are better than me. Girls, money, and everything I try to compete with you, but you beat me at everything I do."
10.) "People are strange when you're a stranger, faces look ugly when you're alone."
11.) "Jesus, I'm a broken man, a broken man, a broken man."
12.) "Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say it's all right."
13.) "Good day sunshine!"
14.) "Myla Goldberg sets a steady hand upon her brow."
15.) "Come on, babe, we're gonna hit the town..."
16.) "I've got a woman way over town that's good to me."
17.) "In the middle of the night, in the middle of the night I call your name."
18.) "Tell the truth."
19.) "Lady Madonna, children at your feet, wonder how you manage to make ends meet."
20.) "You never wear a stitch of lace. Your powder's never on your face."
21.) "Yes I'm lonely, wanna die."
22.) "And so she woke up from where she was lying still."
23.) "He spoke of tortured souls, so outrageous the toll, you can lose all you have."
24.) "Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup."
25.) "The story begins with who's gonna win knowing the danger that lies within."
26.) "I had a dream, oh yeah. Crazy dream, uh-huh."
27.) "A man's got a heart, hasn't he? Joking apart, hasn't he?"
28.) "Ask any of the chickies in my pen, they'll tell you I'm the biggest mother hen."
29.) "Why should I care if I have to cut my hair?"
30.) "Let's swim to the moon, uh-huh, let's climb through the tide."
So, I know it said not to skip, but I had to. A lot. I never realized how many "songs" I had on my I-pod that were just music and no lyrics. Also, some of you might say I put more than one line on some of them. To those people I say, too bad.
Also, I'm happy to say that I'm finally getting back into the swing of things here. It took me a while, but all I had to do was ask for help when I needed it the most. Ha, stupid me. Stupid, arrogant me. So, I've got a bit more free time now. Sort of. Just a bit.
Oh, one more thing...I did another version of this on my useless deviantart account, with a different set of songs. You can see it here: http://beatlesfan931.deviantart.com/journal/20898353/ Go ahead and take a look if you want.
